Creating a New Project

Now let’s create a model! 🏠

Create a Model in Your Workspace

Click on + New Model or + New > Model

This will create a new card “New Model” in your workspace.

Double-click on your new model to open it!

Welcome to the Model Space

You just arrived in the model space! Your screen now looks like this:

At the center is a blank, empty canvas, where we will later draw a few things.

Let’s first look at the top left menu bar:

There you will find:

  • The main menu (to go back to your workspace, export, or import)

  • The layers

  • The block library (Don’t panic, we will explain all this later!)

  • The shape, text & legend styles you can assign to your drawings

  • The pages

  • The tables you can organize your model's data with

  • The comments/annotations that you and your colleagues can leave on the drawing

In the top-right corner of the screen, we can find the model info and share options!

Looking at it in detail, we can find:

  • Your profile tag, and those of other users working in the model

  • The model’s name

  • The check mark, telling you that the model is in sync with the server and your work is saved

  • The question mark button ? that will direct you to the documentation page for instructions and FAQ when using rayon

  • The Share button, allowing you to send the current model to other people

Let’s talk about the bottom toolbar now!

On its left, we can find all the action tools:

  • The Selection arrow

  • The Drawing tools (all the geometries you can create in Rayon)

  • The Wall and Zone tools

  • The Text tools (to add text boxes, tags, and dimensions)

  • The Editing tools (modifications you can operate on existing geometry)

  • The Grouping tools (to create Groups, Blocks, and more)

  • The Comment tool

  • The Annotation tool

  • The Measurement tools (distance, area)

The display options can be found in the bottom left corner of the interface.

There you will find:

  • The units dropdown

  • The scale dropdown

  • The zoom in and out options

  • The zoom to fit option

The In the bottom right corner of the screen, you will find the active bar. It showed the layer currently “active” (the layer onto which you are currently drawing).

Finally, clicking on an item will open up the quick action bar on the bottom & a properties sider on the right side of the screen:

  • The quick action bar gives you access to fast actions (alignment, flipping, rotation, boolean operations, hiding, locking, deleting).

  • The properties sider on the right will show the properties of the items you select.

That’s it, you are now ready to create a new project! 🥳
